Local concrete contractor uses used motor oil cut with enough diesel fuel to let it flow through a pump sprayer. After the forms are in place they go around with the sprayer and coat the forms.
Can I use Pam as a mold release?
Any cooking oil or cooking spray will work as a mold release, such as pam cooking spray, olive oil canola oil, vegetable oil etc.. Avoid using too much mold release as it will create defects in the mold (wipe up any pooling or access).
Can I use Vaseline as mold release?
Petroleum jelly is a suitable mold release agent best suited for simple molds without fine details. The jelly thins when applied by hand, coating the mold material. If used on highly detailed molds, the petroleum jelly may be as thick as some of the fine details, resulting in lost details on your finished resin object.
Does Vaseline stop resin from sticking?
Vaseline will work well too. It can be a bit greasy, so keep the layer light. Two coasters of mine got stuck to each other,i just put a drop of coconut oil and that helped me in seperating the two.

It may tear or crumble if you don’t use a mold release. On a side note, once you use candy molds for resin, please don’t use them for food again.

When the concrete is dry, it’s easy to separate.

Have you ever used a homemade mold with vaseline as a release agent and did your pieces come out ok? It worked well except that my pieces had squiggly lines throughout. Not like the colorant wasn’t mixed, it actually worked great, but it looks like cracks almost except the pieces aren’t cracked.

We highly recommend you use Stoner’s release spray, as it offers you all the required properties to ensure that you can release a casting from epoxy resin. If you are working with silicone, however, we recommend you rather use a release petroleum jelly or a release wax.
Does resin stick to Saran Wrap?
Epoxy does NOT stick to Saran Wrap. In fact, my favorite use for Saran Wrap is to place it over any fiberglassed reinforcements such as wing joiners then smooth it down with my finger. Let the epoxy cure overnight and then remove the Saran Wrap the next day.
