It starts in Ulverston, South Cumbria and heads north through the Lake District National Park, finishing in Carlisle. It was conceived as a mostly low level long distance footpath with a few high exposed sections and the the option of including some summits.

Is the Cumbria Way a tough walk? No, not especially. There are easier, flatter paths but, so long as you are reasonably fit, the CW shouldn’t present any real problems. There is one major, unavoidable climb – to the top of Stake Pass – when you’ll huff and puff and curse me for saying what a doddle the ‘Way is.
