Yes, a credit check will be required in order to get wireless service with AT. This is required of all of our postpaid customers. If this is a concern, you can start an AT PREPAID account.

AT Service with Bad Credit AT has the highest initial security deposit, which usually starts at $250 and may go as high as $750. Your deposit will be refunded after 12 months of on-time payments.

AT requires a credit check when ordering new products (Wireless lines, U-verse TV, Internet and Phone). Credit checks using information pulled from your AT service history and credit bureaus are a soft credit check instead of a hard credit check which means it does not impact credit scores.
Can AT waive deposit?
AT may require a deposit for purchases based on credit or account history with us. There is not a way to waive the deposit amount; however, a refund for the amount is available. A few requirements must be maintained in order to receive it.

The deposit amount assessed by the credit system is on a customer-by-customer basis considering these elements and/or the performance of any existing AT accounts. Deposits range from $90 to $1,000 per line and will be calculated at the time of the credit check being performed.

We do not report any history of payments to any of the credit bureaus. We do run a credit check when you first activate service with us to verify eligibility and provision a deposit if necessary, but on a month-by-month basis your credit is not actively affected by your phone bill.

There’s no minimum credit score to get a phone contract. Every network operator scores you differently—so even if one network won’t give you a contract, you might have more luck elsewhere. Having bad credit doesn’t stop you from getting a phone contract, but it might make it harder.
